Chapter 1: Translating hydration research for dietitians practice
Translating the science of hydration into hydration education and then use this knowledge to implement hydration in practice is important. Findings from surveys showed that dietitians did not have a clear understanding of the terminology of total water intake and EFSA’s recommendations on total water intake. Understanding the evidence of fluid intake on a population level, the relationship of hydration with health and the variation of the different methods of fluid assessment in addition to inter-individual variability, is important when putting science into practice.
Learning objectives
- To set the scene of using the current science and knowledge to implement hydration in practice.
